Lunch Bag Puppet
A child in elementary school generates ~67 lbs of total pacackaging waste per year, including brown paper bags. Meaning, an average elementary school generates ~18.7k lbs of waste on this area in a year!
Today we will be leaning how to make puppets out of used (hopefully not super dirty) paper lunch bags! This craft is perfect for after school when your kids come back home with their own paper bags from lunch with some free time on their hands. This craft is one of the easiest and least time consuming that we will do, so stay tuned!
Materials (w/ substitutions in parenthesis)
Brown paper Bag (any color)
A4 Paper
Scissors
Glue
Markers (any coloring medium)
Someone's arm to operate the puppet of course
Step 1:
Choose your subject! I did this art class around Halloween, so I gave my kids the options to do a scarecrow (as pictured on the cover), a skeleton, or a Frankenstein (which is my personal favorite)
Step 2:
For the sake of this being an eco-friendly arts & crafts blog, I did a recycling bin :P
This is really the whole process in one step, but to break it down, you first fold the paper in half (or just half a horizontal fold somewhere along the page, depending on if you know the top or bottom half of your design will be larger - this fold is just the mouth part)
Then you draw your design with the part you cut aligned on the folded line. BUT to make it come together a bit more, your design should have a little semicircle going down from the cut horizontal line like a mouth, making the whole thing a tad more 3D.
Finally, glue the top and bottom pieces along the bottom and corresponding side of the lunch bag respectively, as shown in the picture (sorry a lot of big words in this sentence).
