Egg Carton Portraits

This project combines Arts & Crafts in a very fun way, and also you can make several out of just one used up egg carton (8 if you're making bunny ears, the whole dozen if you're drawing in your own ears or doing another animal)

Materials: (w/ substitutions in parenthesis)

• 1 used egg carton

• A4 paper (any paper, cardstock is actually better)

• acrylic paint (any paint/opaque medium)

• thin sharpie

• scissors

• glue

Step 1:

See the 4 peaks that protrude out of the empty carton? Those are what will make up your bunny ears! If you're drawing in your own ears, just cut out the 12 sockets for holding the eggs. Below is a tutorial for out to cut out the sockets with bunny ears.

From the cardboard cover of the egg carton, you can get 2 extra pieces of background for the animal portrait! For the rest, you can cut 6 pieces of smaller paper from A4 printer paper or construction. After cutting everything out, fold the 'ears' of the egg sockets flat and glue on the red zone as demonstrated in the picture.

Step 2:

Apply your paint in this order so no paint smudges and the blocks of color are neat. If you paint the background after the head, it's easy to get yellow paint on the white head. Vice versa, the problem is a lot easier to fix. Again, like I always say, take creative liberties with the color choices and animal choices. Some other ones I think are easy to do are:

• Bear

• Mouse

• Giraffe (just make the body the neck instead)

• Cow

• Cat

• Raccoon
